Free Stuff
Well, I finally made a decision about the graph paper. Thanks to everyone who left a comment. Sitting here in my little cluttered studio can be isolating, so it's good to get feedback. Staying with the schoolyard theme, I have called this collection 'Recess'. When I was at school we called recess 'little lunch' (as opposed to 'big lunch'). My memories of little lunch are of not playing dodge ball- are you mad? That ball really hurts! Playing kiss chasy, but being a very good sprinter I never had to suffer the the icky kissing part. But my strongest memory is from grade 4 when I was kicked in the shins every little lunch by a boy in my class, who shall remain nameless (know who you are Patrick McElduff). In the end my mum had to write to my teacher who then had words with Patrick the boy. My shins eventually recovered.

The thing I remember about school is learning how to press flowers, and being taght not by a teacher but by the caretaker and being shown only to pick the ones he specially grew to show the school how. I was only at that school for about 18 months but the gardens and trees were impressive.
Your buttons are just gorgeous!! A memory that has stuck with me is from grade 4. We used to eat our big lunch inside before we were allowed out into the playground (I don't remember why, does seem a bit strange now though). One day I was sitting quietly at my desk and had just peeled my banana to eat when a girl (Amy) came up to me and squiched the whole banana in my hand. To this day I have no idea why she did that and I wanted to cry, but didn't.
Great decision! Love the name as well. I completely forgot about little lunch! Our children have morning tea at school. I remember playing elastics a lot, really a lot. And four square with a ball. Those were good games.
They look fantastic :) I would love to go in the draw.
My fondest memory would be from grade 6 (I think). My girlfriend and I decided to get married to our bf's. Location was at the cricket nets (arhh… would be so cheap if we could do that now) we had bouquets, kissing, veils - the lot :) now I think about it…. I don't think we ever got divorced! maybe I could still be married to that boy 8-O
My most vivid memory of primary school is my first day in grade 1 at a new school, playing poison ball on the ashfelt when the teacher threw the ball at my legs so hard, I went flying along the ground and was grazed from head to toe! Horrible! then having to sit in the corner with my weaping wounds until school could get hold of my mum to come pick me up. I have had a ball phobia ever since -terrified of htem...
ah how lovely they look great! we called recess little lunch as well. I remember getting stuck on the monkey bars once and having handstand competitions. I also remember playing kiss chasey one day i got a little keen and grabbed the shirt of the cutest boy and accidentally ripped it! the mean girl in the class (and i think also had a crush on this boy) had a go at me and i ran off crying...BUT the boy came to me later and said don't worry my sister has a sewing machine she can fix it! :)
They look good Pose!
I remember chasings being a big part of our recess and lunch breaks. I was a fast runner too so nearly always had to be 'it' first otherwise I'd never get a turn!
i remember being so painfully shy i spent every big lunch in the art room, from primary school all the way through to my last day at high school
I remember a sing along thing on the radio? we had lyrics and just sang along in class "little boxes, on the hillside, little boxes made of tickie tackie"... hmmm memories :-)
I remember (50+ years ago, so this must have really affected me) riding the school bus when a nasty boy asked me to smell the metal buckle of his book case. When I did he hit the bookcase ans gave me a bloody node. I had to go all day with blood on my dress and caked in my nose. I hated it.
'Recess'! What a cute little name and gorgeous brooches :)
My fondest memory of school recess was playing marbles in the schoolyard until it got banned! I valued my small collection so much and still have it to this day. I remember trying to collect the freckles because they were my favourite and the prettiest!
Being told off for getting 0 in a general knowledge test, and having to go stand outside! yep, it happened.... LOL
Love the brooches... I was trying to find you on Etsy, do you sell anywhere online?
Hi Abi,I don't sell online, but if there is anything you see here that you would like to purchase I can send you a Paypal invoice and post it to you. Generally, all brooches are AU$14.
To everyone else, these comments are fascinating! The mix between positive and negative memories is interesting. Keep 'em coming!
Your brooches are beautiful.
I have many fond memories of shool, one in particular sticks in my mind. Our small school (20 kids) was holding a "Pet Show", so we put a costume on our pet donkey "Genevive" and took her. We all had a ride....it was so much fun.
Hmmm what i remember from school, well i'm still in high school, but in primary school i remember falling back on my chair. My skirt flew up as well and all the boys laughed! But luckily my friend next to me helped me up.
Ah memories.
Lovely brooches! Vintage style.
