Crochet Craftiness Conundrum

I'm a little addicted to crochet. Having mastered the small granny square I have been making larger squares in the hopes of turning them in cushion covers. So, now I have an ever growing collection of large cushion-sized squares, but I don't know how to proceed.  I need some advice.  Should I crochet a back as well, or is it easier to somehow sew on a fabric back? Do I need a backing on the crocheted front? How do I join the back of the cushion to the front? Can I just stitch the square onto an existing cushion?

Ahhhhh...so many questions. Can you help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just love your cushion covers! The colours are similar to what I'm using. I know Lucy from Attic 24 uses old jerseys for her cushion backs. You should pop over and see how she does it.

Sarah, thank you! I hadn't seen this blog before. So many yummy projects. I've already bookmarked some new things to try. Much appreciated!

lovely lovely colours!

You could crochet a square for the back then double crochet both front and back pieces together...

I see no need to add backing to the front...

and yes you could just attach your crocheted front to an existing cushion...

so many possibilities!

No matter how you do them, your squares are gorgeous. Love the colours.

They look great! Have no idea how you'd make them into cushion covers - maybe you could have a felt cushion cover and then 'fuzzy felt' the crochet to them, very easy to change when the mood strikes!! BTW, have just come back from Sydney and discovered the Babushka shop at Harbourside (Darling Harbor) - managed to replace my dog-chewed set from childhhod! Yay!!

They look fantastic! The colours are beautiful. I was thinking old jumpers cut to size would be nice stitched on as a back...

These colours are so snuggly. I have seen crochet cushions done with a satin behind the crochet square. Give a shimmery sort of look to the cushion. I do love the idea of the felt backing or even just doing both sides of the cushion with the crochet squares. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.

I know where you are coming from with a crochet addiction - have a new list on my blog of all the new sources of inspiration because of thr "problem" - incl Attic 24 - check out Granny Chic on Flickr too.
And yes definately mount the squares onto either an existing cover or make one up - it makes the crochet hold it's shape better and helps give it a little "back bone" for using them day to day

I am in love with your colour choice - what a fab eye for colour you have. I have been making a granny square cushion. My plan is to sew a plain neutral panel onto the back of the crochet and then sew it as per usual to either a contrasting print or plain linen backing. Would love to know how you go!
