My dressmaking class begins again in a few weeks. Last semester I missed a few classes due to market commitments and illness and I only managed to complete 2 skirts (the same pattern- it's a good patten -one of which I gave to my sister). This time around I would like to tackle a dress. I haven't been able to find a modern pattern that I am happy with, so I have decided to go down the authentic vintage road and buy a vintage pattern online. My requirements are a knee length full skirt and short sleeves (not sleeveless). I've narrowed my choice down to these six:

Now to make the final decison.

They are all so gorgeous! Can't wait to see your interpretation of the one you choose!
Darting in the bodice will give a figured fit. You would also need to check the neckline shape and whether the sleeves are set in or just part of the bodice pattern as in the second one on the left and the bottom right. I also notice that some skirts are cut across the grain to give a partial circular shape - thus less full on the hips while still full at the hem - and some are just rectangels gathered into the bodice. The first option is more suitable if you have bigger hips while the second is pretty on slim women. Top right and middle right are probably fairly basic good fits but you would need to fiddle with the neckline if they were not what you wanted - a fairly easy change. I would probably combine one of these bodices with the skirt from bottom left. Aint easy! Cherrie
I think they are all lovely - but the first two would be my pick!
These are all lovely Rosie. Being a little 'busty' my choice would be 4905 and 4919 for me, to tone that area down a little, but I do love 3514 collar and the darts in the bodice. The bottom right is rather cute as well with the little bolero jacket. However that little boat neck in the middle right with the double darts is rather cute too. Good luck with your choices, no matter what you choose, it's going to look lovely.
