Mathilda's by Mathilda's

Now word yet on when I will have my baby laptop back up and running, so here is the link to the Mathilda's Market round up as reported by the lovely Anne, who organises the events. I agree with everything Anne says, especially the bit about Battery Point, but then I live there, so I'm a little biased!

I need my computer back...seriously!

Still no computer at home, which means that I can't download (or upload) my photos from Mathilda's or the screen printing workshop I attended on the weekend. So instead I thought that I would share these images that I gathered this morning whist trying to catch up on the 126 blog posts that Google Reader told me I had to yet to read.

Withdrawal

Hello! It's been a few days since my last post and some of you may be wondering where I've been. I've been in rehab...computer rehab, that is. My AC adaptor decided to give up the ghost on Friday (I'm writting this on my work computer...ssshhhh....don't tell my boss) so I've been without my trusty laptop all weekend. I always thought of myself as a social user....a few blog entries here, a Facebook update there. Where's the harm? I had no idea how addicted I was until my access was taken away. Let me tell you, it hasn't been easy. But thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel (in the form a a new adaptor) and things should be back to normal by Wednesday (fingers crossed).

Waltzing Mathilda's

This weekend sees the inaugural Mathilda's Market here in Hobart. Aside from seeing me and my wares, there are lots of other reasons (27 to be exact) to come on Saturday morning and check out this market. Mathilda's showcases the best of handmade for babies, kids and their mums.  Mathilda's is on from 9-1pm at the Convention Center, Pier One (at the end of Elizabeth Street).

Here's another peek at some of the Notions goodies that will be for sale. No one guessed correctly...they are conversation lollies

My Creative Space...to Market, to Market

I'm starting a new job today, so this week's My Creative Space is going to be short and sweet (literally). This week my focus has been on getting prepared for Saturday's Mathilda's Market. Here's a sneak peek at some things I'll have with me on Saturday...

Raising chickens

Raising chickens runs in both sides of my family. Both my Dad and maternal Granddad use to be involved in showing poultry (prize winning ones of course!) and way back in the early 70's my Dad managed poultry farms. In fact, it was due to chickens that my mum and dad met (via my Granddad). So, I guess you could say that if it wasn't for chickens I wouldn't exist! So, I guess it is only natural that I too should keep chickens.

Thankfully I have only to look after these little guys until the weekend when they will be heading off to Mathilda's Market on a secret mission. I'll be glad when they are gone. They can be such a handful. Especially the little ones. So curious! They are always escaping. I find them in the oddest places. They say they are exploring, but I think it may be more sinister than that. they may look cute, but you can never trust a chicken.

This one thought he was cleverly disguised as a deer

I don't know what this one thought he was doing. Houdini maybe?

Yeah, like chickens can read. Obviously up to no good.

These two made it as far as the back door before I stopped them.

This one made it all the way into the garden. Luckily I was on the look out for escapees.

Modern Meadow

Hot on the heels of Meadow Sweet by Sandi Henderson comes Modern Meadow by Joel Dewberry. I've been trying really hard not to buy any more fabrics lately, but I fear that this collection may be my undoing. Maybe I could put it on my birthday list. My birthday isn't until August, but it's never too early to start writing lists, especially birthday lists!

Described as modern eclectic and available in three colour ways, there isn't much that I don't love about this collection.

Serious for a moment

You may have noticed that I like to keep my little blog rather light and fluffy, a sort of cyber candy if you like. That having been said, there a a serious issue that I would like to discuss. Now, I know that not everyone is comfortable talking about this topic, but I think it is really important that we do. It's a topic that some people might try to avoid and some even go through their whole life without even thinking about it. But it is an issue that needs awareness and while it may make some of you uncomfortable, I'm going to raise the topic anyway and ask you one simple question...

Do you have a Zombie plan?

There are two kinds of people in this world, those that have a zombie plan, and those that don't. I'm in the first category. If there is a zombie outbreak I'll be heading to the docks (tinned goods in arm) to secure myself a boat.

Now you may think that this is an odd topic for a post, but I was discussing my zombie plan today at Handmade Hobart with Grace (Little Black Crow) and Marita (Loopee Designs) and I was amazed that neither of them had a plan. So, concerned for their safety, and yours, I thought it was important to write about this. Do you have a zombie plan? If so, I'd love to hear what it is.

P.S. I tried to find a cute candy-esque image of a zombie, but, alas, no luck. Sorry.

Down the Rabbit Hole...

Often at markets I get into the 'zone' and fail to take much notice of my surroundings. However, today was a different matter. This was the fourth Handmade Hobart market and the first time that it had been held outside. The buildings and grounds at St Mary's school are simply divine. As I was poking around and snapping some photos the roses I was thinking about the Queen's rose garden in Alice of Wonderland. 'Aahhh', I thought to myself, 'what a perfect spot for a game of crochet (actual typo) croquet and maybe a little head chopping.' Sadly I was called away to man my stall before I could round up any croquet equipment or get the chance to order the head off anyone.

Little little lunch

Little Recess (or, as I like to call them, little little lunch) brooches will be on sale tomorrow at the Handmade Hobart Market. Because tomorrow is election day here in Tasmania, this market will be outside and for one day only (10-3pm). Do you like the little lunch case they are in? Another fabulous thrifty find from last weekends adventure.

5 little words

When I was in the US a couple of years ago I fell in love with the chain store Anthropologie. Every time I came across one I just had to go inside. I don't know how many hours I spent in these stores, but with so many goodies to look at, it must have been many. When I came home I eagerly looked them up online only to discover that they didn't ship to Australia. Oh, so sad. Every now and then I would log in and drool over their latest collections. Then, last week, I read these 5 little words... Anthropologie now ships to Australia. If you haven't heard of Anthropologie here are just a few of my favourite items that are currently available.
