My Creative Space...sewing

Do you remember the purple flower tunic I made a few months ago? Well, on Monday I managed to spill black ink on it. Right on the front. Ruined! So, last night I was determined to use my dressmaking class to make another. I managed to complete the tunic in the class and today I am gong to wear it...despite the snow on the mountain and perhaps with a skivvy (or two) underneath!

The pattern is Kwik Sew #3598 and the fabric (surprise, surprise) came from Spotlight. It's a quilting weight cotton.

One more peek

Because Mel twisted my (cyber) arm.

And in red

Sneak Peek

Last night I went to bed unhappy with one of the packaging designs for the Summer collection, so this morning I got up early and redesigned it. I much happier with it now. It works more cohesively with the rest of the collection. I'm still putting the final touches to the Collection, but to whet your appetite here is a photo of some new Notions earrings- roses for Summer, of course!

Inspiration...Summer

Today I am photographing the Notions Summer 2010/11 collection.  I'm really excited about this range. I know I said that the current Spring collection was my favourite, but I have to say that this Summer collection is even better. It's quite different to any other Notions collection. The Summer range consists of three mini collections that all coordinate with one another. It also includes new products. I'll have some images to share with you in a few days, but in the meantime, here are some images that have inspired this latest collection.

Alice Jemima

My mum has just opened an Etsy store called Alice Jemima (Alice Jemima was my great great grandmother and postmistress of the Bothwell Post Office). It is from my mum that I get my creative genes (sorry, dad, but it's true- from you I got my love of straight lines and an odd fascination with macramé).  For as long as I can remember my mum has been creative, whether it was sewing, writing or painting. When I was little she would sew clothes for my dolls, help me make paper dolls and always encouraged my creative outlets. Sew So now I would like to return the favour. If you have a moment pop on over and take a look at the lovely Christmas angels and handmade doily dolls. There will be more items listed over the next few weeks, including both handmade & vintage.

Black & White Polaroids

These cute little black & white hair slides are off to Moss Vale next week. I've down sized the old packaging for these. The slides were a dwarfed with the old larger size cards. This size card remind me of polaroid photos. Did Polaroid make a black & white film? We had a colour film Polaroid camera in the 70s. I love the distorted, slightly muted colours you get from Polaroids. If you love the look of Polaroids, but don't have a camera, you can down load the Poladroid program free from here and make your own.

My Creative Space....Doilys

Today I hand stamped 200 doilys with Elk heads. Why on earth would anyone want to hand stamp 200 doilys with elk heads, you ask? Well, because the lovely Suz from Cocoon in Launceston and I are collaborating on her store's Christmas wrap this year. It's all quite exciting. Cocoon is one of my favourite stores and everyone who purchases a gift leading up to Christmas will have their purchase beautifully wrapped and topped off with one of my doilys. Ok, 200 down only another 800 or so to go. Time to get stampin'.

Notions #2

Embroidery attempt #3. As you can see I'm still obsessed with red on linen. I've had this fabric lying around for some time. I was going to make a cushion from it. I'm glad that I didn't. I really like how this one turned out. Again, I did it free-hand. It was difficult to get the 'o's just right (there was plenty of unpicking) and the 'n' is a little crooked. Next time I think I'll bite the bullet and draw the letters on first.

The Corner

Officially my new favourite nook in my house... the Spring corner!

Thursday

Could you believe that yesterday was even colder than Wednesday? Yes, siree, it was bloody cold, wet & windy...plus lots & lots of snow. Brrrr...Mt Wellington looks chilly!
