Inaluxe Love

I love the work of Inaluxe. I adore the designs and colour palette. Simply divine! And guess what? They are currently having a 30% off sale in their online shop. Now, to see if I can pick a favourite to buy.

Hooking again

No, my financial situation hasn't become so bad that I've had to resort to becoming a 'lady of the night' (although there is an ally next to my house should I ever need it!). Rather I am getting back into crochet. After reading this post over at Dottie Angel's utterly delightful blog I've decided to try my hook hand this

In the hope that it may (one day) become this:

On a side note, my historically informed niece told me that in the 1800s there were up to 7 brothels in my street!

Treasure Trove

When I opened Etsy this morning I found this lovely treasury on the front page and it has inspired me to share it with you. I hope to make this a regular feature of the blog. There are so many beautiful products on Etsy and so many of treasuries are beautifully curated that its a shame not to share them.

Red & Pink

As a teenager I believed that red and pink should not be worn together. That was okay because my wardrobe didn't have anything in either of these two colours...that would be too girly and we all know that the 1990s were all about grunge. But now I'm rather fond of red and pink. Alone and together.

By the Numbers

Maths was my worst subject at school. Me and maths just don't mesh. We get along okay, but we're not best friends. More like acquaintances. Twice I've gone along for months thinking I was a whole year older than I actually was! Me and numbers, on the other hand, get along great. Especially vintage-y industrial type numbers. Here are some of my favourites.

Dressed

I'm loving making dresses at the moment. In the last few weeks I've finished two 1950s inspired plain bodice, sleeveless dresses and now I'm ready to try something with sleeves and a bit more detail. I've had trouble finding patterns that match what I have in my head, so last night I trawled through what seemed like endless pages of vintage patterns on Etsy and bought 3 vintage patterns. I've pretty much got the skirt making bit down, so in picking these patterns I was looking at the bodice and neck line.

I have the perfect fabric for the dress below (left). We have a 3 week break in dressmaking class so hopefully this pattern will arrive in time for the next class.

Last Melbourne Market

Next Sunday I will be at Fed Square in Melbourne to do my last market, at least for the foreseeable future. I love this market. I always do well (touch wood). It has a great mix of Australian designers and a really lively vibe. If you're in the neighbourhood, pop in and say hello.

Mairi Ward

I live about 500m from Salamanca. Those of you who are familiar with Hobart will know that this area is a major arts hub and although I live so close I hardly ever visit any of the galleries near me. But yesterday I was stopped in my tracks by the window display of the Handmark Gallery. They were installing a new exhibition by Mairi Ward. I've never heard of Mairi, but her works were so visually stunning that I stood outside the gallery, my hands weighed down by bags of groceries and admired her work. Today I went back for a proper look. I was particularly drawn to the textiles, lamp shades and the latte cups (of which I couldn't find and image). Sadly, they are all out of my price range, but a girl can dream, can't she?

These images do no justice to the work, so if you are in the area pop in and check out the exhibition. I'd love to know what others think of her work.
